Community Participation

School feeding Programmes

Second Chance Tandem also initiated and supported the school feeding programme at Kubar Primary School in early 2023 by providing fresh meals prepared on the site for both teachers and pupils. This milestone subsequently improved school attendance and academic performance of the school, borne of improved health and nutrition, well-being of learners and educators, and catalysed community engagement and participation. The successful programme was later handed over to the school and the community to manage.

Several pupils were enrolled on Schools Lunch programmes (an initiative in which pupils pay to have meals at school) at both Urim Primary and Obambo Primary and Junior secondary schools in Siaya County.

Structural development

We also help to fundraise or sponsor the construction of school facilities in the local schools.

Second Chance Tandem was part of the core team that raised funds for the construction of two new classrooms, an office/bookstore, and a toilet block at Urim Primary School to help the pupils learn in a comfortable and healthy environment. Kubar Primary School was supported to drain the pit latrine of flood water and sewage and the construction of a new toilet after the previous one collapsed under heavy rains. St. Paul Obambo Mixed Secondary School received financial donations for the construction of the girls’ dormitory as it transitioned the girls from day scholars into boarding facilities. Obambo Primary and Junior Secondary School received financial contributions for the purchase of desks through the pupils who are beneficiaries of Second Chance Tandem.

Water and sanitation

Second Chance Tandem is divinely mandated to help Kubar village and the surrounding communities to have access to clean tap water and is currently exploring the viable options. Feasibility study was completed and the budget presented to us by the local supplier’s representatives. We made a few necessary adjustments to the proposal and responded promptly, and are awaiting the second feedback.
