Second Chance Tandem utilise multi-pronged approach to identify and initiate bespoke programmes for the development of the local communities. These include:
Education Scholarship
Our Education Sponsorship ministry operates primarily in and around Siaya County (Kenya), and expanding to northern Tanzania and south-west Cameroon. Second Chance Tandem and the partners provide sponsorship to support the orphans’ basic and higher education from lower primary school through to higher institutions
Training and Development
Second Chance Tandem offer bespoke training and development initiatives to address skills gaps, reduce reliance on peasantry, and to empower the group members individually and/or collectively to participate more fully in the local economies.
Various forms of farming
Animal Husbandry
The Goat Rearing Programme (GRP) was initiated by a divine mandate in 2018 to help the needy widows without any livestock to own a goat. This is aimed at promoting small livestock-based venture in which the beneficiaries (widows) would start to build small-scale livestock capacities to empower their future economic self-reliance
Micro Finance
All three Women’s Groups received a cash donation to start a shared fund (pool) from which they can borrow small amounts of money for emergent needs. This is a short-term loan that charge very low interest rate of repayment to ease access to finance to resolve matters quickly. The Groups also started “table banking” by collecting money at every meeting to boost their cash flow and bank balance.
Capital Investment Assets
Second Chance Tandem and the Women’s Groups work in partnership and are in the process of acquiring land to further the joint long-term goals and objectives. A local church Pastor donated a piece of land to be co-owned by the local women’s groups in rural Siaya County. The land will be used for the development of housing units for rental and the construction of a milling plant.
Community Participation
Second Chance Tandem also initiated and supported the school feeding programme at Kubar Primary School in early 2023 by providing fresh meals prepared on the site for both teachers and pupils. This milestone subsequently improved school attendance and academic performance of the school, borne of improved health and nutrition, well-being of learners and educators, and catalysed community engagement and participation. The successful programme was later handed over to the school and the community to manage.
Rehabilitation
Second Chance Tandem also support local family members with severe disabilities and long-term illness, such as dementia, to identify suitable interventions and Care Centres. The Care Centres undertake rehabilitation and management concerning the persons’ physical, emotional, and spiritual welfare.
